Knowing When to Refer Your Patient
Recognizing when a patient may need a higher level of care is essential for their progress and overall well-being. Consider referring your patient if you notice any of the following:
Plateau in Progress: The patient is no longer making strides toward their therapeutic goals despite consistent care.
Resistance to Growth: The patient resists further progress, creating barriers to treatment because they feel comfortable where they are.
Environmental Challenges: The patient struggles to follow through with therapeutic recommendations due to distractions, peer pressure, family dynamics, workplace or school stress, or a generally unsupportive environment.
Difficulty with Daily Living: The patient is unable to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) without intervention or assistance.
Signs of Regression: The patient shows signs of decline or setbacks for any reason.
